The provision of clinical training is regulated and accredited by the Training Council of the ACP
The Training Council manages the development of appropriate quality assurance standards for training, the accreditation of UK trainings in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and ensures that new entrants to the training meet the requisite standards for trainee membership of the ACP.
The Training Council is led by the Director of Training and the Deputy Director of Training. It is composed of lay and professional members and meets bi-monthly. In addition the members of the Training Council meet with the Heads of the Training Schools as the Training Development Group to consider training matters.
It has sub-committees including the Training Analysts and Therapists Sub-Committee and the Student Registration Group.
Process of Accreditation
Training Schools must be accredited every five years and must publish an Annual Report. The accreditation process is described in the Quality Assurance Framework which sets the standards for the clinical training. Each accreditation report includes commendations, conditions and recommendations, as needed. Each report is presented both in full and in a short executive summary version. Since 2014 the accreditation reports have been made available to the public.
The Quality Assurance Framework for the Training of Child Psychotherapists is available below, followed by a section for each Training School which includes their latest annual report and both the full and executive summary for their last accreditation.
