Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week 2024

The ACP supports #itsnotok Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week 5-11th February 2024

Many children and young people in the UK are impacted by rape, sexual abuse and sexual violence. We see on a regular basis the impact of this on the mental health of children and young people. Many victims and survivors struggle to seek support and speak about what happened.

On our website you can find a list of specialist books about childhood trauma, including the insightful book Parenting A Child Affected By Sexual Abuse - Youell, Biddy (2016)

We also interviewed Ariel Nathanson, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Portman Clinic, who specialises in working with traumatised young people, including those who have been sexually abused and those who are abusers. Read the interview here.

Finally, this January a team of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists from Bexley CAMHS walked the London Winter Walk marathon (26 miles) to raise money for Refuge. Refuge is the largest single provider of specialist services to survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse and runs the freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline that provides the first step to women escaping abuse.
