Psychotherapists warn against describing the needs of children with mental health problems as “low level”

The ACP Welcomes the report Early access to mental health support, released April 2019 by the Children's Commissioner, Anne Longfield, which provides further evidence that children with anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions face a postcode lottery when seeking treatment, but cautioned against the use of the phrase 'low level' which is used in relation to the difficulties that are being seen in primary care. 
 
Nick Waggett, Chief Executive of the ACP, spoke to the British Medical Journal about the report and why specialist services, such as child and adolescent psychotherapy need to be plugged into primary care and universal services in order to meet children's needs and provide effective early interventions.  Read the full article here
