Research Matters Forum - Research on the child psychotherapy training at the Tavistock: what place identity and reflexivity?

This discussion forum will feature a pieces of doctoral research by Brinley Yare, and will be chaired by Dr Elena Della Rosa, Deputy Director of Scientific Development.

As the teaching year closes, the sixth cohort of ACP child psychotherapy trainees will qualify at the Tavistock who have also completed a University of Essex award. Soon after, we can anticipate that the one hundredth doctoral research project from this programme will be made available for public review.  In this talk, I will describe the purposeful revisions to research training that this curriculum brought into place and how its possibilities are being realised in practice. I will make specific reference to how project-framed queries about reflexivity and identity are being thought about in our training community. It will be my pleasure to survey the range of projects Tavistock graduates have produced recently.

Brinley Yare

Brinley first became closely involved with teaching research methods at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he helped to establish a practice-based doctorate in music performance. He is currently training in psychoanalysis with the BPA, having qualified previously as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and as existential-phenomenological psychotherapist before that. He has recently been appointed M80 Deputy Course Director for Research Practice and is in his eighth year of teaching on that training.

Dr Elena Della Rosa

Elena trained at the Tavistock Centre, has worked in the NHS and has been teaching at the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex. She is currently working in private practice. She has an interest in research and is a research supervisor on the clinical training at the Tavistock. She is Deputy Director of the Scientific Committee at the ACP.
