Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the NHS
Primary Care Event
The workshop is on:
Managing Chronic Depression in Primary Care : Report on a pilot of a psychoanalytically informed, multi-systemic model in Tower Hamlets.
Compass Wellbeing recently piloted three enhanced psychological therapies services in primary care in Tower Hamlets; for chronic depression, eating disorders and stable psychosis and bipolar. This talk will cover the setting up of a multi-systemic intervention for patients with chronic depression. The primary intervention was a group informed by Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy. However the therapists involved GPs, family members/ significant others, and local social resources to support patients address in a pragmatic way their anxiety about interpersonal and social relating; and to link them in a conversation about managing a chronic condition with the GP and the relatives and friends who would be around to support them in the long-term.
Speaker: Anne McKay is a Clinical Psychologist in Primary Care and Adult/Perinatal Psychotherapist at the Maudsley Hospital. She has training and clinical experience in forensic psychotherapy, short-term psychodynamic therapy in NHS and community settings, and has completed the Tavistock Masters in Consultation and the Organisation. She has experience of working in primary and secondary care, and in perinatal, forensic and IAPT settings.
