This event is open only to 'Active' members of the ACP
The Programme Planning Committee and the ACP executive are very pleased that this year’s Annual ACP Conference will take place in the beautiful city of Bath, in the spacious and verdant University of Bath campus. Registration and arrival will start on Friday 26th of June from 6pm onwards, followed by a wine reception and evening event. On Saturday 27th of June we will have a full day of main presentations, parallel papers and in the evening we will have a dinner and dance event. On Sunday 28th of June we will have further papers and presentations with our conference ending at lunchtime.
The conference theme will be explored through a rich variety of presentations, featuring original and ground breaking ideas from the cutting edge of analytic and applied interventions.
Among the topics under discussion, we will look at:
- The roots of relational trauma in infantile experience, with presentation of clinical work through case discussion and video.
- The latest approaches from neuroscience in explaining the genetically- driven primary process emotions at work in violent and aggressive patients.
- Psychoanalytic treatment of children with complex and fascinating presentations, seen through the lens of classic and contemporary theoretical perspectives.
- Research into the impact of working with trauma on professional systems, and on the efficacy of short term treatment models.
- Perspectives on work in a wide range of settings and cultures.
- Technical challenges in managing the violence of our patients and our own violent emotional responses to them. The crucial role of supervision in maintaining a safe and reflective space.
The conference will feature main papers from eminent practitioners, and a selection of workshops and parallel presentations . There will be live supervision, lively discussion and debate, and a chance to engage with colleagues in tackling some of the contentious and complex issues which our theme will elicit. There will be many opportunities for relaxing and socialising, eating together and dancing to live music. Woodland walks will be on our doorstep, with stunning views over the fields and wild swimming in the nearby river.
Registration will be from 5 until 6.30 pm on Friday but people can collect keys from 2pm. All rooms are 'en-suite' and will be allocated on the day so groups can make their prefercnes known on the day
Come and be part of a unique, challenging and enlivening event , addressing issues at the core of our professional experience. We hope to see you there!
