Who is this for?
The ‘Find a Child Psychotherapist’ directory has been designed for members of the public, especially young people, parents and carer to find suitable help for children and young people. ACP members listed in the directory work privately and young people, parents and carer are invited to contact them directly about the services they provide.
What training do ACP members have?
All ACP Members in the directory are qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, who have completed the ACP accredited training and meet the annual requirements for continuing professional development. The Training equips them to have the skills to provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy for infants, children and young people up to and including age 25, and to work with their parents or carers.
What all ACP members can help with?
ACP Members have considerable experience and skills to enable them to work with a diverse population of children and young people with a variety of difficulties. This includes:
- Aggression
- Anxiety in a variety of manifestations including Obsessional Compulsive Disorder (OCD) panic attacks and phobias
- Behavioural issues
- Bereavement
- Depression
- Emotional dysregulation
- Self-harm
- Suicidal thoughts
- Relational difficulties with parents, siblings or peers
- Trauma

Additionally, many ACP Members have a wealth of experience in particular areas which you will be able to search for. In addition to skills in working with the difficulties listed previously many ACP Members have a wealth of experience in a range of specific areas such as:
- Asylum seekers and Refugees
- Care Experienced Children and Young people (previously known as Looked after Children)
- Court work
- Eating Disorders
- Gender Dysphoria
- Learning Disability
- Neurodiversity
- Parent Infant relationships
- Physical illness
- Physical Disability
- Post Adoption
- Selective mutism
- Sexual abuse
How much does it cost?
There is no standard scale of fees and all therapists will discuss their charges on an individual basis with their clients. Therapists will be able to provide information about how much each type of appointment (assessment, consultation, or regular appointment) will cost and what is included in the fee (such as the appointment, whether a report is included in the cost at the end of an assessment).
