Room on the broom by Julia Donaldson
In this story we see a witch allow several small animals join her broomstick flight.
They proceed happily together, until the broom snaps and a dragon threatens to eat ‘Witch and chips’ for tea. Luckily, as the witch was not flying alone, the small animals group together and manage to frighten the dragon away.
The witch rewards the animals’ kindness by making a new broom, which is more luxurious and better suited to the animals’ needs.
This is an enjoyable story for young children, who discover that a witch can be kind and generous, and that when you are part of a group, you can overcome threats, even if you are small.
