Exploring children's books

On this page you will find a selection of books, our child psychotherapists have compiled that may help children and young people. While we think that children will enjoy reading them, they can also be explored together in terms of supporting children’s emotional wellbeing. Each book has a suggestion by a child psychotherapist as to a theme that you may want to discuss with your child – but families will also find their own themes in them to discuss. We hope you enjoy them – you will find regular new additions to this selection in line with current topics and issues.

We have also added the new book illustrated by Axel Scheffler on Coronavirus – A Book for Children, which is a free information book that can be downloaded. It is aimed at primary school children and explains Coronavirus, with expert input from Professor Graham Medley of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, as well as advice from two head teachers and a child psychologist.

For younger children, we have also included some illustrations of well-known characters from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler practising social distancing. These may be helpful when explaining some of the current regulations to younger children.
