Dear ,
Working in-person or remotely in the “second wave”
In the last week the government has announced that COVID-19 guidelines are becoming mandatory and that working from home should be done wherever possible. In addition of course there are local restrictions which apply in different parts of the country. In this context we urge you to look again at the guidance we published during the "first wave” to help you think about the factors that need to be weighed up when deciding whether to work in person or remotely. These guidelines can be seen here.
Advice from the ACP’s union reps
We recognise that there is inconsistency across employing trusts and third sector agencies regarding the response to COVID-19, the protective measures that are being put in place, and the expectations of staff. The team you are in may also have a particular culture in relation to this which you disagree with, making it hard to raise concerns. If you are worried that you are being placed at risk in your workplace, and you are a member of a union such as UNITE, you should approach your local rep for support, or the regional Full-Time Officer if no rep is in place. Alternatively, you can contact Eve Grainger, the ACP Chair of the Employment Standards Group for advice. And if you are a UNITE member, the ACP reps Julia Mikardo and Danny Goldberger.
Trainees and Training Schools
We are working on thinking about the situation facing trainees and training schools, and it is likely that further guidance will be needed to allow for the demands of the unfolding situation. In the meantime please remember the Statement of Variance we issued before the summer which you can see here.
Every Mind Matters
The government has extended the advice available to the public on taking care of their mental health to cover children and young people. This can be seen here.
Kind regards,
