Dear ,
During May the ACP’s COVID-19 Response Team developed a survey to help understand members’ experience of working during the pandemic including use of remote and online technologies. We were very pleased that the survey was completed by 376 members including 45% of full working members and 34% of trainees.
The findings provided a detailed picture of the wide range of experiences, both positive and negative, that members have had. We have now used the findings to produce a report: ‘Technology-Assisted Mental Health Services for Infants, Children, Young People and Families’. The full report can be accessed here and the summary leaflet here.
We hope that this will be a useful resource for members in navigating the next phase of the response to the pandemic including the return to more in-person contact and an assessment of where communication technologies fit with future service developments.
The message we have tried to convey in the report is that Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists have engaged fully with the rapid shift to online delivery and are able to contribute to discussions about how it can be best used in future. We identify potential benefits of these technologies but also want to inform a discussion that these changes need to be implemented carefully with a focus on individual’s circumstances and needs in order to ensure that vulnerable children, young people and families are not left behind in a rush to implement new ways of working.
Please let us know your thoughts on the report, and share the report with colleagues and services as appropriate.
KInd regards,
COVID-19 Response Team
