Psychoanalytic Babies: Towards a Relational-Developmental Psychoanalysis

A conference with Dr Anne Alvarez, Dr Graham Music and Dr Stephen Seligman

Saturday 19 May 2018 - London

Building on the seminar led by Stephen Seligman on Friday 18 May, this conference will further consider how analytic practice can be affected by thinking about infants and children, asking how and whether we can talk about babies and patients in the same breath. The discussion will be anchored in the immediacy and vitality of direct experience with infants and their parents, and of the lived experience of therapeutic relationships with adults. We will bring together what remains vital in the classical psychoanalytic traditions with the emerging intersubjectivist-relational sensibility, including new findings in the areas of attachment, infant-parent interaction research, developmental neuroscience and understandings of trauma.
