 n his research - a mixed methods study that combin
 ed the typical quantitative outcome-focused founda
 tions of health research with the case-study desig
 n of psychoanalytic investigation.</p>\n \n <p>The
  research involved a year of psychoanalytic psycho
 therapy with three children with ADHD diagnoses an
 d suggested that the therapy improved ADHD symptom
 s as well as supporting the notion of a new type o
 f dissociative defence\, which he has named &lsquo
 \;micro-dissociations&rsquo\;. These dissociative 
 states are linked to failures the primitive aspect
 s of psychoanalytic theory\, but often misdiagnose
 s as the inattentive symptoms of ADHD.</p>\n \n <p

 well as the model of memory that it has produced.<

  <p>James trained at the Birmingham Trust for Psyc
 hoanalytic Psychotherapy and since qualifying has 
 working in a number of roles across the Midlands. 
 He taught child development research on the pre-cl
 inical training and recently completed his doctora
 te at the University of Essex with his thesis on &
 lsquo\;micro-dissociations&rsquo\; and how these m
 ight complicate diagnostic processes for neurodeve
 lopmental conditions. Prior to training as a psych
 otherapist\, James worked in His Majesty&rsquo\;s 
 Courts and Tribunals Service\, where he was a case
 worker for the Mental Health Review Tribunal and h
 eld various leadership roles across the First Tier
  Tribunal. James has recently returned to leadersh
 ip\, now within the NHS\, where he is currently th
 e Head of Specialist Mental Health and Neurodevelo
 pmental Services for Children and Young People at 
 Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust..<

 e. She has an interest in research and is a resear
 ch supervisor on the clinical training at the Tavi
 stock. She is Deputy Director of the Scientific Co
