Deputy Director of Professional Standards / Registrar

The ACP is recruiting to the post of Deputy Director of Professional Standards Committee (DPS)/ Registrar. We are looking for a member to take up this key role which oversees a range of tasks that support members to maintain good standards of practice, ensure that complaints are handled in accordance with the requirements of our regulator, the PSA, and that our register is up-to-date and accurate. 

This post may lead to an opportunity to take on the Director role from July 2022. 

The role combines:  

Registrar - who oversees the management of the register and works with the Business Manager, the CEO and the CPD Lead to ensure the Register is up to date and answers members' questions about registration, liaises with our regulator, the PSA, and manages the annual CPD process. This part of the role tends to be busier between September and December.  

Deputy Director of Professional Standards – supports the Director of Professional Standards Committee (PSC) and represents this committee's work on the Board of Directors when the Director is not available.  

The committee includes members working on all aspects of professional standards: Employment Standards in the NHS and third sectors, Independent Practice Group, Ethical Practice Group, Accreditation of Prior Learning, CPD Lead, and other members. Its functions are largely aimed at supporting members in their practice, and involve an interesting range of work, including increasingly thinking about CPD and training for members.

The committee deals with a wide range of issues and is a great opportunity to contribute to and learn about the development of the profession.  The post needs a commitment to high standards in our profession, an eye for detail, the ability to think clearly, sometimes under pressure, and some experience of managing others. The post-holder is supported by the Director of Professional Standards; members of the committee, the CEO, Business Manager, Chair, and other members of the Board of Directors as needed.

Time commitment: The post holder needs to be available to attend the PSC which meets on Friday mornings every two months (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov), currently on the third Friday and to step in at Board meetings and Executive Group when the Director of Professional Standards is not available.  The post holder must be ready to take up the position by the end of November 2021, at the latest. 

Remuneration: This is a paid role. The role is paid £450 per month for half a day per week (under review) but as with all ACP honoraria this is not a direct indication of hours worked but acknowledgement of a significant contribution that will contain a voluntary element.
