Assistant Editor for the Journal of Child Psychotherapy

An exciting opportunity at the Journal of Child Psychotherapy

Assistant Editor of the Journal of Child Psychotherapy

The JCP, first published in 1963, is the official journal of the ACP. It aims to represent the pluralism and clinical practice, theory and research in psychoanalytic child and adolescent psychotherapy, to promote the exchange of diverse perspectives and to provide a forum where new ideas can emerge and be debated. The JCP plays a vital role in facilitating the scientific development of our discipline and bringing together our national and international community of child psychotherapists and allied colleagues.

We are advertising for a fixed term Assistant Editor post. The post will initially be fixed term for one year but it will be reviewed at the end of the year and we hope to attract applicants who have an interest in progressing in the Journal to take more senior positions in the future as part of our planning for succession. The role is also being created to help us address the delays in publication of Issues that we currently have.

This role offers the opportunity to learn the processes involved at all the various stages of commissioning, peer reviewing and preparing papers for publication. It is also an opportunity to get involved in thinking through editorial decisions with the other editors and the Journal Group. We are looking for applicants who share our passion for continuing to extend the reach of the Journal: geographically; in terms of our engagement with other disciplines; and in terms of engaging with the external world issues of class, race, culture etc. The Journal is equally passionate that this should not occlude the internal world and the successful applicant will be interested in how emotional life always emerges out of the interaction between internal and external phenomena.

Job Type: The appointment of the Assistant Editor is currently a fixed term post for one year. Remuneration is the equivalent of half a day’s salary (one session). In practice there are quiet periods and busy periods around the preparation of each issue and some flexibility is required. There are quarterly Journal Group meetings which take place in the evening.

Remuneration: £463.50 per month (£5,562 per annum)
